How fast is 100, 200 or 400 Mbps?
The number on a plan is the most data the line can carry each second. What decides the right plan is how much of it your home uses at once, in the evening, when everyone is online.

What 100, 200 and 400 Mbps actually mean
Mbps is megabits per second. File sizes are shown in megabytes, and a byte is eight bits, so divide a plan speed by eight to see the most it can download each second. 100 Mbps is 12.5 MB a second. 200 Mbps is 25 MB, and 400 Mbps is 50 MB.
On fiber internet, the upload matches the download. A 200 Mbps plan sends at up to 200 Mbps as well, which you notice when you send a large file or back up a phone to the cloud. Copper and cable lines usually upload at a fraction of their download speed.
How fast is 400 Mbps, in real life?
Some arithmetic, on a cabled connection, before Wi-Fi gets involved. A 5 GB game takes about 7 minutes on 100 Mbps, about 3½ on 200 and under 2 on 400. A 1 GB film downloads in about 80 seconds on 100 Mbps and about 20 on 400.
Those are best cases. Real downloads land a little lower, because the server at the other end has limits of its own and every network spends a slice of the line on overheads. That is normal, and it is the same on every provider.
Count busy devices, not connected ones
Phones, a TV, two laptops, a speaker, a camera at the door: most homes have more on the Wi-Fi than they think. Most of it sits idle and uses almost nothing.
What fills a line is activity happening together. Two 4K streams at about 25 Mbps each, a work call at about 4, a game at around 15, a phone updating its apps. We size plans on about 20 Mbps for each device that is actively streaming or on a call. That is where the device counts on our plan pages come from.

Which speed fits your home
100 Mbps suits one or two people with one 4K screen, up to about five busy devices at once. ₹425/mo on the 1-year plan, excluding GST.
200 Mbps is the usual choice for a family. Two 4K screens and a work call together, around ten busy devices. ₹600/mo.
300 Mbps is for several 4K screens every evening, or two people working from home with large uploads. About fifteen busy devices, at ₹705/mo.
400 Mbps is for a large home with fifteen or more devices active at peak time, where a game and big uploads run alongside the streams. ₹845/mo. Every speed, with the 90 and 180-day prices, is on Gazon broadband plans and prices.
200 Mbps vs 400 Mbps: when the upgrade is worth it
Double the speed does not open a web page twice as fast. A call or a single stream needs well under 100 Mbps. Past that, a faster plan buys room for more things at once, and shorter waits on big downloads.
Move up from the 200 Mbps plan to 400 Mbps broadband when the evening is the problem: several 4K screens, someone gaming, someone uploading, and things start waiting their turn. If one device is slow while the rest are fine, a faster plan will not fix it. That is usually Wi-Fi. You can change speed in the middle of a plan, and the difference is prorated against the days left.
Why a speed test shows less than your plan
Test on a cable first. Wi-Fi loses speed through walls and with distance, and many older phones and laptops cannot reach 400 Mbps over Wi-Fi at all, whatever the line delivers. A cabled result close to your plan means the line is doing its job.
If the cabled number is well below your plan, call us on 0206 193 0306, 9 AM to 9 PM, or give a missed call to 8956067111 or 8767311311. Our Wi-Fi not working checklist covers the rest, and the internet speed calculator adds up your household in a minute.
